New York, I love you, but there are times when I need to put your skyline in the rearview.

I had never been to the Adirondacks until a month ago.  A place I’ve always dreamed of seeing, I spent the better part of my time in NYC viewing it as something to just put on the list; a list that kept getting longer and longer.

While not a short jaunt from New York City, the 7-hour drive couldn’t be more worth it. From private islands, cliff diving, kayaking, fishing, swimming and most importantly, bon fires loaded with birch bark, it is everything a camping experience should be.

And for those reasons, Saranac Lake is truly a special place. Reminiscent of Georgian Bay - the land of 30,000 islands outside of Toronto - it gets checked of the list with an asterisk.
